Our teachers aim to empower students to forge their own journey on and off the mat, waking up to the possibility of a simpler life by applying the concepts of yoga to the modern world. We believe that everyone can enjoy the benefits of the practice.

  • What’s your favourite pose?

I love toppling tree. So much is going on. Balance, strength, agility, breath awareness. It can be a real train wreck if you don’t dial into your breath and focus on what you’re doing fully. I feel connected to my breath in toppling tree and damn strong.

Do you remember when you took your first yoga class?

I had a similar experience to Leia with my first hot yoga class. A friend suggested that I attend with her. I truly thought it was going to be lame and I did not understand the appeal of sweating so much. But it absolutely blew my mind and after that first class I never stopped going. And to this day a heated class is still the best addition to my day.

What do you love about living in Saskatoon?

I’m grateful that my family decided to move to Saskatoon. We were living in Toronto and the lack of green space was depressing. I love that we can find a park in just about every direction, the river is easy to access with beaches and trails at our fingertips. The wildly cold winter makes the hot room even better and I feel our yoga community is stronger because of it.

  • What’s your favourite pose?

Seated forward fold. It's my favourite head-to-toe multi-tasker stretch, and also a great spot to take a short nap in Yin!

Do you remember when you took your first yoga class?

I remember that I didn't really want to go. I went because a friend was passionate about it and wanted me to try. I was immediately intrigued by how surprisingly difficult the practice was. I was drawn to the challenge and also the sense of ease and grounding afterwards.

When you’re not hanging out in the hot room what brings you joy?

When I 'm not hanging out in the hot room, being in nature brings me the most joy. I love puttering around with my plants and just about any activity that's outside, especially on sunny days.

  • What made you want to teach?

The feeling I got after my first yoga class was so good that I wanted everyone I loved to experience it, so figured if I taught it would get them on their mat !

If you could only play one artist's songs in your class who would it be?

I really love the vibe of the band called ‘Cannons’. They integrate deep house and 80s synth pop which makes for a perfect atmosphere for a yoga class!

When you're not teaching, what style of class do you gravitate towards?

Overall I’d say a yang type class. I tend to have some energy to burn and that’s the best way to do it.

  • When was your first yoga class?

My first yoga class was in 2000, after my son,Jonah, was born. A yoga studio here in saskatoon, JMS, that taught Iyengar yoga. It was what helped shape my passion for alignment.

Where’s your favourite hang out spot in Saskatoon?

One of my favourite places is the Remai Modern but you can also find me sampling my way through the various local bakeries - best croissants in town... I'll know.

    What inspires you?

I try to remain inspired by all the little things in life, so many people are dealing with more struggles than we can see. These people always inspire me to show up, give my best, and recognize the gifts I already have.

When you’re not hanging out in the hot room what brings you joy?

When I'm not in the hot room I enjoy visiting plant stores and garden centers. I'm always on the hunt to add a new exotic plant to my collection. I also love getting out with the dogs.

The best part of living in Saskatoon is the beauty. The awe of our urban forest, the river and our many parks and green spaces.

My favorite yoga pose is tall tree. When I open my arms to the universe I can feel the energy funneling down into my body.

    When was your first class?

My daughter Holly brought me to my first yoga class at the studio where a very pregnant Anna was my instructor. Within a few months I was an ambassador and attending 4 classes a week. A year later I took my training and became a teacher. It all happened very fast and I'm so grateful for this space that has been cultivated by Ashleigh and Leia.

When you’re not hanging out in the hot room what brings you joy ?

I love spending time with my family and my new wife Grace. Being in the country hunting and fishing and just observing nature. My son Cole and I recently built a 9 hole disc golf course on our acreage. Of course there is always that time spent in the studio teaching and practicing.

Where’s your favourite hang out spot in Saskatoon?

My favourite spot in Saskatoon is our studio. It’s my second home with my chosen family and the most heart warming community. If I’m not being sappy, I love working from Sparrow, and my favourite social thing is going to the ballet when it’s here.

    Who Inspires you?

My grandma who lived to the age of 104. She was a no-nonsense, funny, loving, hardworking woman. She raised 4 kids on her own, she never complained, and she was always kind.

  • Do you remember when you took your first yoga class?

First yoga class was in 1995, but I have only started practicing with any consistency since July 2013 when I took my first yoga class at Moksha with you!!! Didn’t realize it was hot yoga or I may not have come - lol. I was hooked from day one!!

What do you love about living in Saskatoon?

I love the people, culture and sense of community Saskatoon has.

  • What made you want to teach?

Teaching yoga came from the love of TAKING yoga as a part of my life/school balance in university. It grew to taking my training to guide others as I moved into higher education, attending chiropractic college, as I knew teaching yoga, asana and breath work was going to be a pillar in my life as a yogi & a chiropractor.

If you could only play one artist's songs in your class who would it be?

Maggie Rogers is a gem, lots of variety to her musical offerings and she’s a pretty rad lady!

When you're not teaching, what style of class do you gravitate towards?

Yin yoga is where I spend more of my solo practice now - busy life, baby & working mom status has me wanting to SLOW things down and be a little more still when I can.

  • What’s your favourite pose?

Downward Facing Dog, perfect balance of strength and length.

When you’re not hanging out in the hot room what brings you joy?

When I am not in the hot room, you can find me, out in nature! Traveling (most likely trekking some challenging trails!), hosting events within the community, or exploring with my pup, Lu!

    Guilty pleasure- hilarious memes.

What do you love about living in Saskatoon?

Oh Saskatoon! River & outdoor activities, incredible food & restaurants, bridges & beautiful architecture aside… for me, it’s the people! We have, hands down the BEST community around.

  • What inspires you about practising yoga?

So many things! It is both a somatic and mental practice that brings me so much peace and a sense of alignment no matter where I am. The minimalism that yoga can have also made it stick in my life - while I love utilizing props, the habit of the movement really stuck because at the end of the day I just need my body and a mat.

When you’re not at the studio what brings you joy?

I'm an avid home cook and foodie so I love spending time experimenting with new recipes or trying new local restaurants in the city! I also enjoy dabbling in a few different creative practices and so you may find me painting, crocheting or making pottery.

  • Do you remember when you took your first yoga class?

My first yoga class was at Moksha Montreal in the summer of 2012.

Where’s your favourite hang out spot in Saskatoon?

My fave place to be in Saskatoon is anywhere that serves breakfast and has plants! Bonus points if it’s dog friendly.

    Who inspires you?

My inspo comes from my parents, who immigrated to Canada in the 70s/80s. As I get older the enormity of the sacrifice and courage it would have taken to pack up and ship out to a whole new country with a new culture and language becomes more unfathomable and at the same time more moving with time.

  • What made you want to teach?

Once I realized the mental clarity and peace I was able to access in my own practice I was interested in learning how to share it with others. The skills cultivated in practice can be very empowering and I love seeing people access these parts of themselves.

If you could only play one artist's songs in your class who would it be and why?

Nightmares on Wax because I love funky, hip-hop inspired instrumental music during practice.

When you're not teaching, what style of class do you gravitate towards?

I refuse to choose because I need it all! For me, fun playlists and dynamic flow classes must be balanced with deep rest and relaxation. I love to explore all the aspects of myself in practice.

  • What made you want to teach?

Practicing has given so much to my life. Yoga has taught me how to move through life in a more compassionate and open way and I wanted to be able to share that with others.

If you could only play one artist's songs in your class who would it be and why?

This is impossible to answer! I love glass animals and NoMBe and they both seem to make their way onto many of my playlists.

When you're not teaching, what style of class do you gravitate towards?

I love to flow but Yang/Yin is the best of both worlds!
